Portraits of Sid’s Room

Diogo Gomes

A young woman with short, dark curly hair and bright yellow oval earrings sings powerfully into a black microphone, her mouth wide open and eyes closed, showing intense emotion. She wears a black top with lace trim, a gold necklace, and rings on her fingers, which are painted with dark nail polish. Colorful string lights, some shaped like stars, are strung across the top of the frame, and a blurred male figure is visible in the background, along with paper lanterns, suggesting a vibrant indoor music performance or party.

Portraits of Sid's Room documents the charged atmosphere of live music performance in an intimate, domestic space. Once a month, a band performs in my roommate's bedroom — full audio, full presence, no distance between performer and audience. The series examines what happens when something as expansive as live music is compressed into a small room: the energy that builds, the human connection that forms, and the way shared experience transforms an ordinary space into something charged with feeling.

About The Artist

A textured graphic with the word 'Inhale' in prominent solid white text, positioned above the word 'Exhale' in faded, semi-transparent white text. Both are centered on a grainy blue-grey gradient background that transitions from a darker slate blue at the top to a very light blue-grey at the bottom.
