Lasting Impressions

Ashley Bazzano

A close-up view inside a severely corroded and abandoned car. The driver's side features a shattered window with sharp glass fragments and a rusty door panel with a chrome handle. The floor and the remains of the front passenger seat are densely covered in vibrant orange and brown autumn leaves. The seat cushion is heavily degraded, revealing its rusty metal springs and torn, discolored fabric. A tree trunk and green foliage are visible outside through the opening where the roof or another window would be.

Lasting Impressions, is a continued photographic series that documents the final resting places of discarded, decomposing vehicles in a scrapyard scheduled for demolition. Beyond the beauty of decay, these objects still carry traces of the lives that once inhabited them — personal remnants and quiet imprints that offer clues about the people who drove them. In October 2025, I returned to the site for the last time before its scheduled demolition, knowing it would be the final opportunity to capture what had quietly persisted there. These images are a small window into those lives, and into the particular kind of memory that only abandoned things can hold.

About The Artist

A serene graphic with a vertical gradient background shifting from dark blue-grey at the top to light blue-white at the bottom, featuring a subtle noise texture. The word 'Inhale' is displayed in prominent white letters. Below it, the word 'Exhale' appears, subtly fading from white into the lighter background, creating a visual metaphor for the act of breathing out.
