The Women in Green

Sam DeRose

This series reimagines mythological women from different cultures whose stories are rooted in forests and nature. Focusing on figures such as Eve, Ophelia, and the Mavka — often framed as tragic victims or temptresses — these images examine how these women are condemned for their actions while their male counterparts escape similar scrutiny. To reclaim their role within these stories, the women are presented as powerful yet complex figures, deeply connected to the natural world that has long served as both their sanctuary and origin. Agency is restored to figures who have been defined by blame and tragedy.
