Love of Dance

Ruby Stewart

A woman with long brown hair and tattoos sits barefoot, looking down thoughtfully on a light wooden floor, wearing a white top and blue joggers. To her left, a pair of light pink ballet slippers rests on the floor. Behind her, a faded, ghost-like figure of a dancer in motion, with faint orange footprints, is visible against a light wall, creating a scene of reflection or memory.

Love of Dance follows a single dancer returning to the studio after years away from the practice. The work is personal: I danced when I was younger and stopped just before university, not realizing until later how much I would miss it. This series grew from that feeling: the complicated experience of returning to something you once loved, navigating the gap between memory and the present body. The images trace both the joy of that return and the vulnerability of beginning again.

About The Artist

A minimalist graphic displaying the word 'Inhale' in bold white letters, positioned above the word 'Exhale' which fades from white to transparent. The background is a soft blue-grey vertical gradient, transitioning from a darker shade at the top to a lighter, almost white shade at the bottom, all with a fine grainy texture.
