Moments of Release

Nina Lewis

A black and white studio shot of a man with dark, curly hair and a beard, wearing a suit jacket, light shirt, and trousers, floating mid-air in a crouched position. He looks directly at the camera with a questioning or puzzled expression, with raised eyebrows and furrowed brow.

A jump lasts a millisecond—long enough for the camera to capture what the eye cannot: the body free from gravity, suspended in a moment of pure physical expression. Moments of Release is a photographic series examining the human body in motion through jumping, exploring how a single gesture can reveal personality, energy, and emotion that cannot be staged or rehearsed.

Each subject brings something different to that moment of suspension — playfulness, concentration, abandon — and the camera holds it there. What emerges is not simply a record of movement, but a portrait of presence: what it looks like, and feels like, to be fully inhabiting your own body.

About The Artist

A serene graphic featuring the word 'Inhale' in prominent, solid white typography at the top, followed by the word 'Exhale' in a lighter, partially transparent white directly below it. The background is a gradient shifting from a deep, grainy blue-gray at the top to a pale, grainy blue-white at the bottom, conveying a calm and mindful atmosphere related to breath.
