A Birthday Wish

Brianna Taylor

A birthday celebration with five people seated around a dark wood table. A young woman in a sparkly crown is centered, looking directly at the viewer with a neutral expression. To her right, a woman in a light blue party hat holds a small cake with glowing candles. Two men in light green party hats are partially visible on either side, facing towards the cake. A colorful 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' banner hangs across large windows in the background, revealing trees outside and potted plants.

A Birthday Wish is a reflective, introspective piece that explores the quiet desire for solitude in a world that often equates celebration with togetherness. Centered around the narrator’s birthday, the work challenges conventional expectations by expressing a longing not for attention or festivity, but for peace and self-connection.

Through sensory imagery of nature and inner thought, the piece reframes solitude as a source of comfort rather than loneliness. It highlights the emotional tension between societal pressures to appear happy and the personal need for authenticity and stillness. Ultimately, the project conveys that true fulfillment may come not from external celebration, but from moments of quiet clarity and being fully present with oneself.
