The Shape of Expectation

Cassie Santinhos

The Shape of Expectation examines how beauty standards extend beyond the face to govern how a body is posed, judged, and measured against others. The setting is deliberately spare and clothing minimal—not to emphasize the body, but to evoke the vulnerability of existing under that kind of scrutiny. The red lipstick functions as a focal point for accumulated pressure: to look a certain way, present a certain way, conform to an ideal in constant revision. The series considers the performative dimension of these standards, the way they are felt inwardly and performed outwardly—and the quiet exhaustion of perpetual self-editing.
