In This Skin

Tyrell Gough

In This Skin is an intimate study of how we see—and learn to love—the bodies we inhabit. Through close, abstracted photographs of the male form, the series explores the tension between external desire and internal self-perception.

Created through collaborative conversations about confidence, comparison, and insecurity, the project became a space where subtle details—dimples, folds, scars, textures—shifted from perceived flaws to points of recognition. Some images remain sharply defined, while others dissolve into softness, reflecting how self-image often blurs around the parts we struggle to claim. By fragmenting the body, the work resists idealized wholeness. Instead, it embraces presence over perfection, inviting viewers to slow down and consider how vulnerability, desire, and self-worth shape the stories we tell about our own skin.
