Can We Still Fix This?

Kyleigh Crooks

A vibrant, abstract image composed vertically, with the left half dominated by a textured, bright yellow field showing subtle streaking. A thin, reddish-orange band marks the transition to the right half, which features a mottled blend of dark blue, purple, and teal. Two prominent, elongated streaks of bright white or pale blue light appear vertically in the darker section, suggesting light leaks or digital brushstrokes, all set against a slightly granular background.

Can We Still Fix This? reflects my own anxiety, as well as my generation’s, about our future and the limits of our imagination.

Through semi-blurry and blurry intimate photographs of nature, I explore the feeling of not being able to see far into the future. By soaking film to manipulate the negatives, I echo my generation’s struggle to imagine what our lives will be like in the next five—or even ten—years, in a world plagued with constant threats.

These images stem from my mental state, but acknowledge that I'm not alone, and these are generational experiences that resonate with many, inviting viewers to address these problems and their relationships with these pressures.

About The Artist

A square graphic with a solid dark blue background. In the exact center, the bold white digits '31' are prominently displayed. Four stylized, open-top white 'M' letters are arranged around the central number, one in each quadrant. Each 'M' is composed of two diagonal lines forming an inverted V, with two shorter lines extending upwards from the top points, resembling an unfinished 'M' or two inward-pointing arrows, giving the impression of an explosion or expansion from the center.
