Fragmented Memories

Jassie Teal

On March 3, 2025, I landed at Stuttgart Airport in Germany, an ordinary moment that quietly marked the beginning of a shift in how I see my life. Living in Stuttgart reshaped my understanding of memory, belonging, and the small encounters that unexpectedly stay with us.
When we remember, our minds rarely follow a linear path. Instead, we hold onto fragments, the people who changed us, the fleeting moments that felt significant for reasons we only understand later, and the emotions that linger long after the moment has passed. This project is built from those fragments. Each photograph represents a small but resonant moment from my time in Stuttgart, chosen not because it fits neatly into a timeline, but because it marked me.
These images reflect how memory actually works: out of order and emotionally. They speak to the people I met and the experiences that shaped my days abroad, revealing how deeply brief connections and everyday exchanges can alter one’s sense of self. Ultimately, this project is both a record and a reconstruction of my time in Germany, honouring the non-linear memory and the lasting impact of the people who move through our lives, even for a moment.
