A Dream That Grew From Concrete

MEAZY R

A studio portrait featuring a person with dark skin and straight, shoulder-length black hair with bangs. Their eyes and mouth are smoothed over to create a featureless surface, leaving only the nose visible. They are adorned with large, intricate gold-toned earrings and a massive matching necklace, both featuring numerous blue and clear gemstones, iridescent accents, and white floral or butterfly elements. The person wears a crisp white collared shirt, and the background is pure white.

This body of work is rooted in the tension between traditional expectations—the social, physical, and economic—and the persistent drive of the creative psyche. It is an investigation into how the artistic spirit successfully blooms by simply holding onto the light of a dream.

Through a series of six large-scale portraits, I map the geography of restriction mixing in digital floral projections to symbolize the persistent energy of the psyche. The use of transparent plexiglass and a synchronized 'heartbeat' rhythm creates a 3D space where the viewer becomes a literal component of the transition. The project serves as a testament to resilience: a study of how we nourish that creative vitality when the surrounding world feels dull or stagnant.

About The Artist

A high-contrast image of a figure viewed from the back, wearing a dark black collared shirt and a loose black fabric covering their entire head. On the back of the head covering, a light gray or white crescent-shaped design, with visible stitching and slightly frayed edges, forms a wide, upward-curving smile. The figure is silhouetted against a softly lit, muted light gray-blue background, creating a mysterious atmosphere.
