Shared identity allows us to relate to others and form shared experiences, bonds, and communities over similar shared pasts and presents. Although shared identities can bring international communities together to invoke world-changing actions, a shared identity can also just be going to a festival with like-minded people or going to the same event every year together. Movement of the Collective is a photo series that examines the spaces in which people gather and the collective identity that bonds them together in that moment. The series compares what different types of shared experiences can look like and the degree to which it can unify the people around them. The images are captured using a slow shutter speed to allow the investigation of people’s behavioural movements, clothing, and activity in a collective and uniforming manner.
