This project started out as an exploration of my dad, focusing on his racing career. Racing is not something that he does anymore, but I have always been fascinated by that part of his life. During my research, I found a lot of similarities between him and me. I saw a lot of myself in him, especially during this time in his life. I was encouraged to somehow incorporate myself into this project, which is something that I really struggled with at first. My father and I are very different as individuals, but this project ultimately served to connect us, and brought us closer together. After realizing this, I decided to incorporate it into the project, by layering cutouts of my face onto my father’s. This is my way of showing how he lives in me, through my passions. The adrenaline rush of racing for him, is the emotional rush that I get from producing and creating art. Although our passions are very different, we both have the same drive for the things that make us happy in life.
