Through images taken at night of my childhood neighbourhood, The Definitive Map of Leslieville explores the concept of a truly fixed space in the world, and how the sometimes very arbitrary confinement of people to something like a neighbourhood can change how they see the world around them. In pairing the images with text, I break down what a neighbourhood really is and the effects of putting an exclusionary label on something. Through the sharing of this new perspective of my neighbourhood, Leslieville takes on a new shape from what it might on a traditional map.

Balthazar “Baz” Alfred is a Winnipeg-born, photography-based artist. Baz’s photography presents everyday occurrences through an abstract lens, creating new methods of understanding how we look at the things we interact with daily. When combined with his eye for the sublime and ethereal, this abstract lens allows him to stay on the cutting edge of ideas in the world of photography.
