Photography is the art of the still image. The still image works for stunning portraits of people in their ideal states, but it can struggle to show people as their actual selves. People’s lives cannot be captured in a single image, just as they cannot be defined in a single sentence. We are complex beings with so much more to offer, show and express than what can be compressed into a single photograph. We are Made of Pieces is a photo series composed of images of people digitally stitched together to create a more complex and broader sense of each person. It attempts to capture the multifaceted nature and personal identity of the individual photographed, in conveying a wide range of emotions, feelings, and personal struggles.
