An above-angle view of the steering wheel and driver's seat shot through the driver's door. The car's once vibrant teal colour still pops through underneath a growth of moss, grime, rust and decay that now covers it.

This image is a part of a photographic series titled “Rusted Remembrance,” which is meant to explore the beauty, the decay, and lasting pieces of personality from old cars left to rest in scrapyards. Through this photograph and series, I wanted to convey how these vehicles, once a very prominent vessel of a person’s memories and life, now hold feelings of stillness and absence. Though tarnished with rust, cracked upholstery, and deteriorating remnants, these cars still translate stories of the lives lived and journeys taken with these vehicles. My goal for this image as well as the project as a whole, was to invite viewers to feel a sense of curiosity, nostalgia, or even sorrow or grief when observing these images. I hope to foster the idea of impermanence of material things, even though there is inherently impermanence with these vehicles whether it be through owners or simply the deterioration of them. These cars, though now silent, still speak in their own way, holding emotional and memorable permanence.
