Similar to photography, writing grants us the ability to explore and express experiences of profound significance. For me, Dolce Domum (Home Sweet Home), a written work authored by my friend Koleen Chua, stands as one of the most impactful pieces of writing I have recently encountered. This work focuses on the journey as well as the reconnection process between her and her grandfather, whom she hadn’t visited since the age of thirteen. It also addresses the challenges of navigating through the judgement and preconceived notions held by some of her relatives back in the Philippines. Inspired by these themes, Look Far in the Willows dives into her family reconnections, doubts, insecurities, and identity. In essence, this project aims to visually articulate Dolce Domum’s remarkable and heartwarming trajectory.
