Born in Seattle, Washington in 2003 to Canadian parents, so much of my identity was
tied to America—a place that I despised for a really long time. Omaha, Nebraska, where my parents currently live, holds a complex history, its segregated past echoing through its present. This series captures me as I exist currently. The images were made at locations in Omaha where I frequently would spend time, wishing that I was anywhere else. By returning to these places as I am now, I am able to revisit what I left behind and ultimately make peace with the destruction I created in my attempt to discover who I wanted to be moving forward.
This work remains largely unfinished, as do I as a person.
In ten years time, I will return to this project, photographing the person I have become, in a place that I hope is different from when I left it.
